6th January 2011 – A beautiful start to the New Year was spent today taking a walk with 2 of our local experts. Jessica Herriot and Angus Hannah kindly gave me some of their time and knowledge.
On a short walk along the forest track beginning at Rhubodach Cottage, we were able to identify Holly, Hazel, Japanese Spruce, Birch and a good few more lovely specimens in our forest.
What was really interesting was to understand more about the verges of the track. Stopping along the way to gaze into an accidental pond created by spate driven debris, or the bright red of a particular type of moss, you suddenly realise the variety of eco-systems that co-exist seemingly in seamless fashion.
I am looking forward to learning more and hope you will take the opportunity to come for a stroll too.
Cheers
